How many points should I have now?
Period of Contract
The Fall and Spring semesters of 2013-14 as defined in the official University academic calendar shall constitute the period of the Non-resident Meal Plan contract, except for the holiday periods listed below. This contract period begins on Saturday, August 24, 2013 and ends on Saturday, December 21, 2013 for the Fall semester and will begin on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 and end on Saturday, May 17, 2014 for the Spring semester. Note that meal plans will be available for use in the fall beginning Saturday, August 24, 2013.

Holiday Periods
Cal Dining locations will be closed for the following holiday periods:
- Thanksgiving Break -- Thurs., Nov. 27, 2013 – Sat., Nov. 30, 2013
- Winter Break – Sun., Dec. 22, 2013 – Tue., January 14, 2014
- Spring Break – Sat. March 22, 2014 – Sat. March 29, 2014

Contract Duration
The Non-resident Meal Plan contract is for the Fall and Spring semesters or for the Spring semester only. No contracts are sold for the Fall semester only.
Non-resident meal plans may be purchased from the beginning of the fall semester until November 1, 2013 and for the spring semester until April 1, 2014. The full point and dollar amount associated with each plan will be billed to your account; points and costs are NOT pro-rated based on date of purchase.

Dining Locations
Your Non-resident Meal Plan is available at all sixteen Cal Dining locations: Clark Kerr, Crossroads, Café 3, and Foothill residence dining commons; The Den, Cub Market, CKCub and Bear Market residential retail; and Golden Bear, Pat Brown's, Ramona's, Terrace Café, Common Grounds, Qualcomm CyberCafe, The Pro Shop at RSF and The View Café at Lawrence Hall of Science. Meal points are also accepted at Haas Pavilion, California Memorial Stadium and select Cal Athletic venues.

Cal 1 Card
Cal Dining uses a computerized system to control access to its facilities. Your student ID card will be magnetically encoded for the meal plan specified on your contract. NO MEAL SHALL BE PROVIDED WITHOUT PRESENTATION OF VALID STUDENT ID OR CASH. There is a fee for the replacement of a lost or stolen photo ID card. STUDENT ID CARDS ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE.

Special Diets
Cal Dining locations offer a wide variety of meal options, including vegetarian and vegan selections. Although not guaranteed, special diets may be accommodated within our regular offerings. Meal plan holders can arrange a meeting with our chef and nutrition counselor to discuss any special dietary concerns.

Payments
Non-resident Meal Plan contracts may be paid in (4) installments if purchased in the Fall and (2) installments if purchased in the Spring. The first payment and the November payment cover the cost of the contract through December 21, 2013. The remaining payments cover the cost through May 17, 2014.
Installments are: billed to CARS and due September, November, February, and April. These installments will be shown on the e-bill in Bearfacts. The statements will indicate the specific date your payment is due. It is your responsibility to ensure that payments are received at Campus Billing & Payment Services, 140 University Hall, on time, or you will be subject to late fines and other sanctions. These late fines and other sanctions will be shown on your billing statement. Fees will also be assessed for any returned checks and will be charged on your CARS statement.
Should your account become delinquent, action will be taken to withhold meal service, block registration, and withhold the issuance of transcripts. This includes any add-on points you have purchased as a meal plan holder. If meal service is withheld, you will not receive a refund for meals missed due to sanctions.
To prevent such sanctions, you should contact the Billing and Payment Services Office prior to the fifteenth of the payment month. Deferments are authorized only by the Billing and Payment Services Office at 140 University Hall and this must be done in person.

Cancellation of Non-Resident Contract
During December 1, 2013 through January 25, 2014, the RSSP Cashier's Office will accept cancellations of the Non-resident Meal Plan contract without cause; the cancellation date will be December 21, 2013. No credit or refund will be given for any unused points from the Fall semester. Add on points will not be refunded. Cancellation fee will apply.
Contract holders will forfeit all bonus points and any unused points up to cancel date. Cancellation fee will apply.
Termination of Non-resident Meal Plan contract outside of the cancellation period shall be approved ONLY for the following reasons and with written verification from the University: academic withdrawal or medical reasons. If you join a living group such as a fraternity, sorority, or Co-Op that require meals, you can cancel your contract with a written statement from the living group.
All approved cancellations will be assessed a $50.00 cancellation fee.

Meal Plan Changes
Changes to your meal plan will be approved January 1 - 31, 2014. You may request a change to your meal plan by submitting a Meal Plan change at the RSSP Cashier’s Office or online at: http://caldining.berkeley.edu/meal_plans.html.
The current plan will be cancelled, along with bonus points and the new plan and bonus points will be activated. Any points used in the spring semester up until change date will be deducted from new plan. A $50.00 administrative fee will be imposed for any approved meal plan change.

Residence Hall Contract
If you receive a Residence Hall assignment, the Non-resident Meal Plan contract will be pro-rated. Be sure to inform the RSSP Cashier’s Office that you have a Non-resident Meal Plan contract if you accept a Residence Hall assignment.

Graduating or Studying Abroad
If you are graduating in the fall or studying abroad in the Spring, you must contact the RSSP Cashier’s Office to cancel your non-resident meal plan. The RSSP Cashiers Office can be reached at hsgcashiers@berkeley.edu, 510-642-1524 or by visiting the office at 2610 Channing Way, 2nd Floor. Students who are graduating or studying abroad are allowed to cancel with no penalty or fee.Verification of graduation and your study abroad program will be requested. Failure to contact the RSSP Cashiers office will result in additional charges to your CARS account.
