Waiting List and Transfer Information

Assignments for Family Student Housing apartments are determined on a first-come, first-served basis. You may apply up to two years in advance of your enrollment at the University. The length of time you remain on the waiting list depends on your family size, the type of apartment you request and your move-in date. The wait for apartments varies according to demand. The greatest demand (and longest wait) for housing is in August at the beginning of the fall semester. The shortest wait is usually mid-semester during October and March.

To Remain on the Waiting List

1. Renew your application every April and October by calling (510) 642-4109, or writing to the Assignments Coordinator, Apartment Assignments Office. You may send an e-mail to apts@berkeley.edu.
2. Notify Apartment Assignments if you have changes in address, telephone number, assignment preference, family size or other application information.
3. Respond promptly to any apartment offers by contacting Apartment Assignments.

Transfer

If you would like to transfer to a different apartment, you may submit a transfer request. You will be placed on the waiting list along with new applicants on a first-come, first-served basis. You may request a transfer for health reasons, pregnancy or change in the size of your family.
