Life at Unit 2 - Griffiths
Amita is a freshman from Cypress in Orange County, CA. An intended-business major, she is in the Freshman Sophomore Business Club and secretary of her building's Hall Association. In her free time, Amita also volunteers at a local elementary school through CalCorps. She loves living in the residence halls because the close-knit community makes it really easy to meet people and build friendships.

Q: What was your first impression of Unit 2?
A: When I first settled into my room at Unit 2, I felt like I was living in a hotel, with rooms down a long hallway and bathrooms cleaned every day. While it is a very different from what I had expected, living in the residence halls has been an enjoyable experience.

Q: What makes Unit 2 different from the other residence halls?
A: I love the fact that Unit 2 is far enough away from campus so that there is this sense of "going home" after a long day of classes. It feels good to go back to my room and be at home; I feel like I wouldn't be able to get away from the nagging school feeling if I lived any closer to campus.

Q: What is it like to live at Unit 2?
A: Unlike a lot of other residents, I live on a single-sex floor, so I only share the communal bathrooms with other girls. The bathrooms are like public restrooms except that they are much, much cleaner. Sometimes guy friends come over and use the bathrooms, but that's not a big deal at all.

Q: How often do you interact with residents in other buildings?
A: If I weren't on Hall Association, I think it'd be harder to get to know people who don't live on my floor because I wouldn't see them very often. Either way, it's not hard to meet people at Unit 2, as the buildings are centered around the courtyard. In fact, I met a future roommate (for next year) in another building.

Q: What is it like to be on Hall Association?
A: Being on Hall Ass. is cool because we get to put on all sorts of events for residents at Unit 2, and sometimes we'll even organize unit-wide functions. In addition to Hall Ass. events, my friends and I go to things that RAs put on too (especially the ones with free food). Last semester, we went broomballing with the floor, which was a ton of fun!
