| Unit 2 is a unique place to live
and learn. Housing approximately 250 students in each of its four
newly renovated buildings, Unit 2 has a strong sense of community.
Unit 2 is located a convenient distance from campus- not too far to walk,
but far enough to get away when you need to relax. |
| In addition to the community
focus, Unit 2 has several special features. Our DC is recognized
as one of the best on campus, the photo ID center is located on site, and
we have an excellent academic center to meet your needs as a student. We also house
upper-division and transfer students in Davidson Hall, as
well as the LGBT Theme Program on a floor in Ehrman Hall. Unit 2
really is a great place to be. Join us. |

| Programs and Events
- What's Happening When And Where?
The hall staff at Unit 2 develops and coordinates approximately 80 academic,
social and cultural programs a semester. They range from a
common class listings and faculty dinners, to Asian cultural nights, ski
trips to Lake Tahoe, and safer sex programs. These programs allow
residents an opportunity to educate and develop themselves outside of the
classroom setting. In addition, the health workers and hall associations
also coordinate many activities and programs for Unit 2. |

Leadership Opportunities at
Unit 2:
Hall Associations
Unit 2 has four Hall Associations made up of student leaders from Ehrman,
Cunningham, Griffiths and Davidson Halls. An executive board comprised
of a President, Executive vice-president, Social Vice President, Treasurer,
Residence Hall Association Representative, and Co-Board representative
are elected each semester. Additional leadership opportunities exist
by becoming involved as a floor or suite representative. Together,
the student leaders in each area provide a myriad of social, educational,
recreational and fun programming and activities for students. Becoming
involved with the Hall Association is a tremendous opportunity to develop
and fine-tune leadership skills and to positively contribute to your community.
Co-Board
Co-Board is comprised of student co-board representatives and the presidents
of the four hall associations at Unit 2. They actively plan and create
many large scale events for Unit 2 residents. Last fall semester,
they hosted a Unit 2 Dance Party for residents and their guests. During
the spring, the Co-Board traditionally sponsors the annual boat dance - sometimes
combined with Unit 1 residents. Last April, Unit 2 and Unit 1 residents sailed away on the bay on a Commodore Cruises dining yacht. |
Volunteer Tutors
The tutor program is a fun, and a great way to get involved, right
where you live. As a volunteer you spend one hour per week tutoring
in the subject of your choice. Tutors also get special training and
attend meetings to talk with other volunteers.
Student Orientation Staff
You can expect to be greeted by a SOS member upon check-in during August.
Each Unit depends upon returning residents to form the Student Orientation
Staff (SOS) to help design and initiate programs and activities at move-in
time in the fall. SOS members assist the hall staff in coordination
events which are intended to welcome students to the residence halls and
assist them in becoming familiar with their new environment.
Peer Review Board
Peer Review Board is a student leadership group of 8-10 students
who hear cases of policy violations affecting the community. The
board meets on weekly basis and is led by a rotating chairperson.
They critically analyze the incident report and discuss the report with
the student. With the information provided by the student and the
report, they decide if a student is responsible or not responsible for
a policy violation and if appropriate, assigns a creative, community based
sanction. |

Security at Unit 2:
Unit 2's safety and security program is spearheaded by four security
coordinators and approximately 50 student security monitors. The security
program maintains an information and security desk at each of the four
Buildings. The desk holds a wealth of information; resource guides
are available for students to browse through everything from Recreational
Sports to cable TV information. Security monitors can also provide
phone numbers and information on public transportation. |
| About The Students:
Unit 2 is home of a variety of students from diverse back-grounds.
Our students engage themselves in all aspects of the University.
In three of our main buildings we primarily house first-year students,
and in Davidson Hall we house the majority of upper division and transfer
students. We also host the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered
Theme Program on the fifth floor of Ehrman Hall. Most students are
from California and all are full time students at UC, Berkeley. |
