Unit 3 consists of Priestley Hall,
Ida Sproul Hall, Spens-Black Hall, Norton Hall, and Beverly Cleary Hall.
If you have ever had a chance to visit the University of California, Berkeley,
you know that Unit 3 Residence Halls are located in the hubbub of activity
on the southside of the campus. The majority of the continuing students
who request Unit 3 Residence Halls like their proximity to campus and the
local flavor of Telegraph Avenue. |
| Beverly Cleary Hall is home to two
of our four Theme Programs: Asian Pacific American and Casa Magdalena Mora.
These are residential programs for students who have an academic and personal
interest in Asian Pacific American and Chicano / Mexican history, culture
and issues. |

- What's Happening When And Where?
The hall staff at Unit 3 Residence Halls develops and coordinates approximately
90 academic, social and cultural programs a semester. Some past examples
have included: stress release workshops, lunch with faculty members, safety
and security and safer sex programs. These programs allow residents an
opportunity to educate and develop themselves outside of the classroom
setting. In addition, the health workers and hall associations also coordinate
many activities and programs for each hall. |

Leadership Opportunities at
Unit 3:
Hall Associations
Each hall and theme living program have hall associations made up of
student leaders. An executive board comprised of a President, Executive
Vice President, Social Vice President, Treasurer, Residence Hall Association
representative, and Co-Board representative are elected each semester.
Additional leadership opportunities exist by becoming involved as a
floor representative. Together, the student leaders in each area provide
a myriad of social, educational, recreational and fun programming and activities
for students. Becoming involved with Hall Association is a tremendous opportunity
to develop and fine-tune leadership skills and to contribute positively
to your community.
Co-Board
Co-Board is comprised of student co-board representatives and the presidents
of the five hall associations at Unit 3. They actively plan and create
many large scale events for Unit 3 residents. They have sponsored talents
shows, boat dances, ski trips, and many other entertaining programs. |
Volunteer Tutors
The tutor program is fun, and a great way to get involved, right where
you live. As a volunteer you spend one hour per week tutoring in the subject
of your choice. Tutors also receive special training and attend meetings
to talk with other volunteers.
Student Orientation Staff
You can expect to be greeted by a Student Orientation Staff member
upon check-in during August. Each Unit relies upon returning residents
to form the SOS that helps design and initiate programs and activities
at move-in time in the fall. SOS members assist the hall staff in coordinating
events which are intended to welcome students to the residence halls and
assist them in becoming familiar with their new environment.
Peer Review Board
Peer Review Board is a student leadership group of 8-10 students who
hears cases of policy violations affecting the community. The board meets
on weekly basis and is led by a rotating chairperson. They critically analyze
incident reports and discuss the report with each student. With the information
provided by the student and the report, they decide if a student is responsible
or not responsible for a policy violation and if appropriate, they then
assign a creative, community based sanction. |

Security at Unit 3:
Our safety and security program is spearheaded by the Assistant Residential
Life Coordinator and the Security Coordinator staff. The security monitors
are on duty every evening in your hall. With your help and cooperation,
they insure that your hall is secure. In addition, you may obtain a number
of campus and safety resource information from the lobby desk. |
| About The Students:
Unit 3 Residence Halls are home to a variety of students from diverse
backgrounds. This unit was the most desired unit by continuing Cal students,
so you can often gain resources and tips from returning students who have
experienced the rigors and excitement of Cal. Lastly, many of the UC Berkeley
student athletes reside at Unit 3 including, but not limited to, men and
women participating in track and field, tennis, baseball, water polo, swimming,
volleyball, and crew. |
