Meal Plan Options
The Meal Plan for FULL-TIME UC BERKELEY STUDENTS in APARTMENTS:
If you are a new or continuing full-time UC Berkeley student, and accept a Summer Sessions Housing contract for a space in an apartment, a resident meal plan is NOT INCLUDED in your Summer Sessions Housing contract.
You may purchase a non-resident meal plan option directly through the Cal Dining webpage.
The Meal Plan for VISITING STUDENTS and FULL-TIME UC BERKELEY STUDENTS in RESIDENCE HALLS:
The Summer Sessions Housing contract includes room and board, with a Standard Meal Plan. The contract may not be purchased without the meal plan. Meal plan 'points' are the currency with which residents use their meal plan.
Students also have a one-time opportunity to upgrade to a Premium Meal Plan, during initial completion of the Phase 1 portion of your Summer Sessions Housing application. As students’ meal plan usage varies depending on eating habits and lifestyle, this option will offer you more flexibility, based on your individual dining needs.
You can monitor your point usage, remaining balance, and add add-on points by logging in at Cal Dining.
Chews To Reuse: To-Go Containers and Meals
Tickets for Complimentary Chews to Reuse to-go containers and informational flyers will be provided to all summer residents at check-in. You must bring your Chews to Reuse ticket to the Crossroads Dining Hall for your first meal, to redeem for your complimentary Chews To Reuse container from the Cashier.
To purchase a to-go meal from the Crossroads Dining Hall, bring your clean to-go container to the dining hall and:
- Fill up and go.
- Keep your container until you need another to-go meal.
- Bring your rinsed container back to the cashier and receive a replacement.
Please visit the Cal Dining webpage for additional information on the Chews to Reuse program.
Retail points have a purchasing power of $1 each (calculated to the 1/100th). For example, a purchase of $2.01 would cost 2.01 points.
There are no daily minimums or maximums. You can buy what you want, when you want it.
You may also use your points for as many guests as you want.
Unused points cannot be refunded, cancelled, or transferred to another session/semester.
It is the responsibility of the student to monitor his or her point usage and remaining balances. Students can do this online at cal1card.berkeley.edu.
Purchasing Additional Points
You can also purchase additional points throughout the session, up to one week prior to the end of your summer session. Points can be added in $50 increments. Fifty dollars would purchase 55 additional points. Unused additional points cannot be refunded, cancelled or transferred to another session/semester.
